I use kubuntu 5.10.
with the kcontrol i set up a hp laserjet 2300. it functioning very good. then i went home and on the next day i boot my system.
when i want to print i see only a generic printer. i cannot connect to localhost:631 - the browser bring a timeout.

the cups daemon is running (see it in pstree).
i read many threads on this homepage, and make changes in the cupsd.conf like
* listen hostname:631
* listen 127.0.0.1:631
* port 631
* HostnameLookups On

the printers.conf contains the HP Laserjet as default printer.

then i reinstall the complete cups with synaptic packet manager.

please help me.

do you have firewall blocking port 631? If you can print, cups daemon is working but if you can't connect to port 631...that has to do with network or even cups config file. Did you allow admin connections from 127.0.0.1 from cups config file?
