Hey, I'm new to Linux any advice?

Hi Tiny,
Im new to the board as well and fairly new to Linux. Are you looking for a good OS to start with? I think a person cant go wrong with Ubuntu but it really depends on you and what your needs are. Mine are classroom and labs, so I use about 6 different distros. Kali has been the funnest (pen-testing) Ubuntu is the go-to I like how clean OpenSUSE is (seems to be a good desktop, but doesn't use a lot of the traditional linux language) CentOS I have but haven't really used to much, seems similar to OpenSuse as far as how clean it is Gentoo was a pain to install Slackware I have but have done very little with, it seems to have features others do not such as LILO for the MBR (not Grub/grub2) Have fun I say, burn a bunch of images, take a single classroom exercise and try to make it happen on all OS's, if it fails, no biggie either roll back to a previous snapshot or install it again (good practice). Take care -RGG |
Hello.
Read manuals very carefully. :) |
What is it that you want to accompish?
Do you just want to learn linux? Are you just trying to install an os? You can also just try it out as live-cd or usb. |
Pick something you like to do on a computer. Learn how to do it with Linux. Then pick another something, and so on. You will learn along the way.
