New Ubuntu user

Greetings, I am installing Ubuntu on an older Panasonic Toughbook I wish to use just for internet (wireless) around the house. A co-worker suggested Ubuntu, since the laptop originally had Win 95, and only a 4 gb hard drive. I wanted to keep this dinosaur of a laptop original, so I didn't change to a larger hard drive. I hope it finishes installing soon! eager to check out Ubuntu.

Thanks in advance for the answers to the questions I will probably be posting!

Ha! I've just signed up for the exact same reason (though installed on a PC). I'll save everyone a re-post...

I would not recommend Ubuntu full blown OS. It will require much more disk space and physical memory. You should check out Xubuntu, a variant of Ubuntu based on XFCE desktop or any other Ubuntu variant built on smaller desktop environment like LXDE. There is Linux Mint LXDE edition based on Ubuntu LXDE. Else you could try Dream Linux which also based on Debian just like Ubuntu but used XFCE, is easy to use, light on resources and still good looking.

Anyhow, welcome to LQ
