Question New to Linux, Want to Setup a Server

I'm completely new to Linux, never even seen it in action , and it's probably not a good idea to do at my experience level, but I'm looking to set up a Linux server on my computer. I currently am using Windows XP. The reason why I'm not using Windows for my server is I've heard Linux is much better when it comes to servers than Windows. But I don't know the command line. How would I go about do this? Thanks for any help to a newbie.

There are a lot of books out there that can give you some basic knowledge of linux regardless of the distro you pick in the end. If you pick a distro that you think would fit you best (some are easier to use, some are better at serving, etc) get a book specifically for that distro. A lot of the time the book will actually come with the OS on cds for you to install. If you want to take the free route, look for basic tutorials on the net. There are probably a million out there, but I'm sure someone can suggest a good one.
