new to linux, running mandrake 10,please help on connecting to my networking

hi there, like I said I'm brand new to linux. my dad and I decided that last night we wanted to get linux and try it out because most likely, linux will be the future for OS's.Today he gave me one of our old computers with Mandrake 10 installed. So far I'm liking the setup difference from Windows, but this is still brand new territory for me. its strange not going to start and hitting run and then typing command to get to the command prompt, but im sure after awhile I'll eventually get used to it.

well in my newness to this, i need to figure out how to connect to our LAN. im plugged in and have net access through our router, but I can't share files with my dad. can someone please tell me a way I can connect to our network?

thanx in advance.
(your gonna see me here alot ;))

Hi friend, be welcome!

To share files and folders with your network, you should install and run the samba-client package. Samba is the suite of tool needed to connect a linux comp to a win comp.

Open the setup program in Mandrake and search for samba, or windows networking.
