New To Linux, Not LOADING..

Hello i have installed Mandrake on my other pc and when i first booted i had to do the "first config" thingo and then it just went into a wallpaper with blue and a wave up the top and a wave down the bottom

like its not a wave as in beach i mean wave as in curve...

i can boot up but i cant open any programs.. its my first time with nix and all i install it, then when it says remove disks and restart then i do that and it comes up with first time configuration and i choose my desktop and all and no mail client then in says finish, i click finish it loads into this "wall paper" screen and just will flicker with white boxes appearing then disappearing and the start bar appears for like 2 seconds then goes..
lemme go make this image now..lol

Its slightly different to the image, like the colors arnt the same, size is different, but its shades of blue and yeah, looks similar.. i dunno wat to do i dunno if this is a "special Screen"?

i can open it up in text mode like the
Localhost login:
password:
the sumthing like [benjamin 2 localhost]$
or sumthing but i dont no n e other commands other than startx

well the wall paper changed to a just plain blue bg and a dialogue box has appeared reading

"Could Not Start Process: Unable to Create io-slave: Too Many Open Files" well is there a way i can close some files down or sumthing, well i just figurerd i can right mouse button, but i cant open the desktop config

I am unsure of my Moniter Model, My Graphic Card Size, and wat the graphics card (brand, name, model?)

Im Trying To Run Mandrake 9.1

PLEASE HELP
