New to Linux/internet connections??


i just installed mandrake linux 10.0 on a computer.. it says my lucent win modem is out of date and not supported... i know y use dial up?? well the person i did this for doesnt have the money for cable.. she might get dsl.. what type of dial up modem do i need to work with linux?? and if she does get dsl which will go through her on board ethernet, are there specific drivers she will need or will linux recognize it right away?? please let me know.. thanks for you time!!

If you know what the onboard NIC is, like a realtek 8139 or if you tell us the motherboard model, I can tell you if the NIC is supported.

If she gets DSL, normally they supply the DSL modem so she won't have to get one.

I recommend trying Mandrake 10.1. I found 10.0 to be quite buggy when compared to version 10.1.
