New to linux

i have 3 folders now with the 2 extracted files in it in the correct lib firmware folder and still no good,i think it,s safe to say it,s not going to work on this operating system.

If you read the tutorial, you might finally understand the concept of current directory and relative paths, and why typing something in one directory will not mean the same thing in another.

i dont know what that means?it really should not be this hard to do,espically with directions..i followed the how too http://www.omattos.com/node/6 and still nothing.I really dont understand why this operating system is so diffcult,to extract a folder into another should take 5 seconds.telling a newbie to read the tutorial with words and pharses that i dont even understand will not help.i tryed but this lenovo just will not run wireless with liunx i think.

It is easy and takes 5 seconds, if you know the basics. It's just that it's very different from Windows and applying your Windows knowledge to Linux will not work.

Read the LinuxCommand tutorial in my sig so that you can understand to understand the terminology.

i do really appereciate all your help,i just dont have time right now to read a book.I just assumed getting the wireless to work would be a matter of a few clicks.

I might give you a GUI walkthrough later.

Until now I thought you were going to do it in the command line.

Yep that means terminal, but...

Wowowowow, wait a little mate... I had a quick look at some of your posts here. Tell me one thing, that network icon, when you click on it, edit connections, is that connection set to connect automatically? Mint comes with broadcom's driver, so what's the issue here?

If you have questions about a procedure or even with simple commands then ask. We cannot answer your questions if not presented. http://www.omattos.com/node/6 article is written with a newbie in mind. You cannot get it much simpler than that. If you don't understand content then present where or what is not understandable and maybe we can help.

If you follow the author's example above then there should not be a problem to add the firmware to '/lib/firmware'.

It seems you have been mixing things up a bit. Everyone is trying to aid you to get the wireless functional. I must admit that reading this thread completely there was some confusion. Rather hard to follow.

I do suggest that reading a few howto/tutorials to familiarize would not hurt;

yes there is a x in the connect auto box i also get a popup saying authentitication required by wireless network, i attached it,i click connect but does not connect.

So, is it WEP or WAP? Passphrase or what?

But no matter what, my advice is to use 13 characters long passphrase. Do you know how to change those things?

when i check hidden wireless network

it says

connection-jay

network name- jay

wireless security-WPA&WPA2 Personal

password-........

then after i hit connect i get a popup in the top cornor of desktop saying.

connection established.but then i try to get on internet and i get server not found,

also my wireless bars in the taskbar are not highlited.

I'm sorry but I have to ask this (as I'm all confused of what's the real problem right now).

- Are you trying to connect on a neighbor connection?...

Because from what I know, when we attempt something like that...
Network-Manager adds an automatic connection to that connection, each time the computer boots.

If not... Can you point, What are you attempting to do?

Hope you can solve your problem(tough I don't know anymore, what's the issue)..
