It is possible to reinstall lilo, but im not sure of the details. To get your windows bootloader back simply boot into the recovery console on the windows XP cd and type:

fixmbr<ENTER>
fixboot<ENTER>

DISCLAIMER: Your mucking around with the master boot record and bootstrap, problems can and have come of this. I take no responsibility for any loss of information resulting from these directions...

helllo mr bruse,

may be this step will help you,

you can insert mandrake cd and boot rescue after that
1. grub-install /dev/hda
2. reboot

or
you can also use lilo bootloader
1. mv /etc/lilo.conf.anaconda /etc/lilo.conf
2. lilo
3. reboot

your problem cause you hardisk is slave, not master

goodluck

Sorry about how long it took me to get back to you, i was celebrating an early valentines...

Anyhoo,
seeing as your a nix user ill direct you here http://www.petri.co.il/forgot_admini...r_password.htm
I suggest getting windows running BEFORE linux, as windows tends to be really hogish with the master boot record and tends to wipe over grub (or lilo) whenever anything needs to be fixed.... not that its a big dilemma or anything as you will need to then reinstall your boot-loader (google for it and there are heaps of guides)
