New start to linux

I've got windowsME running on one hard drive,
and i've got nothing on the other drive. (i deleted everything).

I want to install mandrake 8.2 on the second hdd. However when i go to fdisk in dos, it shows that i only have one partition whereas i should have 2!

Please advise.

If i boot up using the mandrake cd, will it sure the 2 partitions, and will it let me chose which partition i wanna use for mandrake?

Welcome to LQ, IC.

You need not fdisk your second harddisk from dos. If you pop in the install CD and point it to the second harddisk (hdb?) when you get to the partitions step, you can completely overwrite whatever is there, if you want. Oh, and I advise you to install using the Expert mode, regardless of how little you think you know about either Linux or your computer... do it, it's really not that hard since there's always a little help thing at the bottom of the screen. Oh, and if you've got the bandwith, and inclination, Mandrake 9.0 is out now (I'm downloading it at the moment). Many people rave about it... I have not yet tried it, but if Mandy 8.2 is anything to go by, 9.0 should be damn good.

ok, I have just downloaded 8.2 yesterday :S
I have no idea how version 9 came out so quickly lol!
I do have the bandwidth, so I will take your advise, and take time to download mandrake 9 !

:)

Yeah, it's been in beta for a while now, but it's out! Main features look quite good... even if I won't be using KDE3 or Gnome2 I will be using the programs! God how I love having broadband now! Next stop, after downloading and burning Mandy9 will be RH8 me thinks!
