New Motherboard ASUS A7N8X Deluxe
Just put together a new computer and am trying to load on Mandrake Linux 9.1. Disk 1 dosen't seem to boot up properly and it keeps crashing. I have checked the MD5Sum and it is correct. Currently operating Window XP please help me get back to Linux.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Jim |
have you tried to create a FAT32 empty partition while in xp (using partitionMagic or some other app) and then install mdk on it?
linux doesn't like ntfs file system very much, it can create problems while installing - creating a FAT32 partition, which will later be re-partitioned (to /,swap, /home and all other linux part. you want) by mdk's internal partitioner/mounter resolves this problem ;) |
What do you mean by crashing? Do you get an error message?

I am trying to install onto a hard drive that is formated in ext3. But it just comes up with i need to insert the instalation cd 1. and I have verified that that is the cd that i am using. i have also checked the md5sum to verify that it is correct.

OK, I'm going to guess this is what is happening:
you are booting from a floppy to install mandrake 9.1 after you start to run the install program from the floppy, your CD spins up shortly (you can hear it), and very quickly you get the error message "insert CD 1" This error message is the same if you have the CD in the drive or not. If all of this is correct, make sure the CD reads in Windows (or on another computer), and make sure you burned the disk right. |
Thanks for the help so far to answer the last question i am not installing from a floppy and the cd does boot up from Windows XP. Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Sorry about the delay in feed back been so busy with new puppy. Also burned another copy of disk one and it does the same thing. Thanks for everyones help so far. |
