new Moe need help

iam MOE7404. 69 years old. iam an old car guy. in Wichita ks. i have been a linux user for 5-7 years. but my knowledge is VERY limited. as i have allways had an expert near by for help. but my experts are no longer here for me. a little over a year ago i got a new computer. and the girl i was dating set it up for me. but she is gone now. i think she set up ubuntu 16.04 as linux mint. my current trouble is i lost libre office, and all the stuff that goes with it. of course you know i dont want to run windows, i do want to stay with linux.

Hi moe7404 and welcome to LQ! :)

And sorry I missed the question about Libre Office and actually moved your question over to the Introductions forum.

You may have just lost a shortcut to it and not lost libreoffice. Can you open a terminal prompt and type in "libreoffice" and hit Enter, or Return and see if that loads it. If so, we may have to just re-set up a shortcut.

If you do need to install/re-install:
Mint should have a software manager which is available in the Administration menu. In there you can type into the search box, libreoffice and you should be able to see that package and try to install it.

There are other options with more control and potentially more adjustable results, however let's first try the most fundamental method and then move on to more difficult/advanced methods and see if that gets you the application.

Greetings Moe.

Since the OP is a complete Linux novice, he is probably not familiar with using the Terminal.

As I reported earlier, why has this thread not been moved back to Newbie Forums for maximum exposure on the subject matter of LibreOffice apparently being absent.

It has nothing to do with Member Intro.

Hello MOE7404 welcome to LQ.

A normal Mint install should allow you to use the software manager to install software.

I'd wonder why it left and all your information?????

Is it possible that you have more than one user for this? Say Moe1 and Moe2 accounts/users?

Are you suggesting that this missing girlfriend could have some timebomb set? (I'm skerd to ask where she went)

It may be possible to cut the intro part out and move rest to a new thread in other forum but I can't.

Hi Moe!!! I see (from clicking on username) that you've been back as recently as yesterday.
Feel free to tell==post 'us'==LQ (sorry, my English is noticably poor)
how things are going, what you tried, and any (detailed) results.

Any ideas on what specifically may have happened (been done) when it disappeared?

Happy Holidays!!! p.s. Sorry "she" has been gone the year 2017; empathy.
(I'm not sure why that 'triggers' me personally; it actually genuinely brings tears to me.)
