New Member Question;)

Hello, Ive only just signed up to Linuxquestion.org and like to say a big thankyou to the site owners for holding a massive FAQ library for me ;)

There are a few questions Id like to ask so please bare with me I am a total newbee to linux, but Im really keen to learn the ins and outs of Fedora Core 1. I relise whilst posting my first post, that fedora core 2 has been released which is excellent news. But, Im only getting used to Fedora Core1 and had installed and setup via my friends help. I did how ever manage to get my Lynksys Wireless G working and installed the correct drivers via LinuxAnt by my self which I was quite chuffed about.

Now for my questions:

1)Is it really worth me upgradeing to Fedora Core 2 apart from the ovious new kernell 2.6?

2) If not, then I would like to upgrade my current Fedora Core 1 to 2.6 kernell becuase I belive it supports my WinTV Nova T PCI card which apart from everything eles doesnt work yet in my current install ie my current kernell is 2.4.22-1.2179 NPTL.

3) If you reconmend me updateing my kernell I really have no idea how to setup a new kernell I only know the basics of the linux GUI desktop and some commands in the konsole to get me by any help would be greatfull.

Kernel: Linux 2.4.22-1.2174.nptl CPU[1]: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz@3000.181 MHz Mem/Use: 1032708 kB/ 170304 kB Vid: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon R350 [Radeon 9800] (rev 0). XInfo:4.3.0 Screen #0: @ 1024x768 pixels (361x271 millimeters) /24 bit Sound:Creative Labs SB Audigy (rev 4)

Learning the internals of compiling the kernel is a very good experience it will help you learn more about linux and help when things go wrong. I have also heard good things about fedora core 2 so the choice is yours. I would install fedora core 2 then compile a kernel for the fun of it.

This is just my opinion, upgrade to FC2.
It is much more stable than FC1 on my machine. Take the example of Up2date, when I was
using FC1 it really sucks! But it looks ok now... (Cant comment much as I just used it for 2
days...)
