New Linux user, any info would help
I just recieved an old copy of redhat linux 7.1 from a friend who upgraded to a new version. Is there any websites, tuturiols, pdf's, that you think would help me setup a web server, DNS server. i have installed linux already and installed the packages as well. I am pretty much a dummy. I have always worked with windows.
I have a router as well, does the linux server need a static ip or can it remain on the lan as long as it can reach the outside world. Thanks for you help. |
there are ebooks on the Net--- one is "Linux Command Reference" it is based on RH 7--I believe, and another is called "Redhat Bible"......do a google and you will find either .PDF or HTML versions of these....

Don't know much about RedHat but this seems a bit ambitious for a newbie. Webservers
are a security risk unless setup behind firewalls and not on network with users. DNS servers in SuSE require a bit of knowledge about network setups as well. I know in SuSE the only way I could understand it was to read various scripts in /etc. The second part of the question I assume you mean the DNS server. You don't have to have one you know, a proxy server would do just fine - but thats another topic. The DNS server or a proxy server do not need a static IP and there are security advantages in not having one. |
