New Kickbox

I wanted to build a simple box for Fedora Core. HC (Hardware Compadablity)Just seems like a real headache for any distro. Windows Server 2003 is looking better and better.

So you are telling us that you are building Windows box...seems like the NEWS OF THE DAY. Why tell us, its your choice so go ahead.

FYI, my signature below is the one that I build myself running Slackware entirely.

I wanted to run a home web server. I look at all the new hardware and ask myself what is compadible with Fedora Core 4 or just basic hardware that works with many distros. I wanted to build a new Kickbox with new or semi new hardware. I just need a friend that knows some of the basics and more. I wouldn't nag that person. I just need help with hardware the rest I will get thick books.

Thanks for the reply

I know all about hardware. Built to many windows PC's

Well, you can start off with looking at the HCL section on this website. Building for Fedora Core??? I would say building for any Linux distro because under the hood, all have Linux kernel. The kernel is what the drivers will interface with. As far as I am concerned, I would little worried about network cards. I would rather go with a PCI one (rather than an on-board one). Other than that, a home server hardware hardly needs any fancy hardware. Just get yourself a decent enough motherboard, good amount of ram, a nice (if not newest) processor, and a cheap video card. I have a dell machine running slackware based web server and everything is working out of the box.

Building a PC to use Linux is hardly any different from building one for Windows. Just have to make wise choices on the hardware. So research before you buy...
