Question New keyboard? or edit XF86Confug?

I Red Hat Linux 9 to a WIN ME gateway. The install seemed to go well along with the partitioning and I can now dual boot BUT... the keyboard either fails to respond or at seemingly random intervals works but the "hangs" about half the time and repeats endlessly.

Keyboard came from gateway and is USB. The keyboard works fine in Windows and dos.

Called Red Hat, they said "maybe" a new keyboard would help OR I could edit the XF86config BUT the dont recomend it. I dont care if I screw the whole thing up becuase its pretty worthless now w/o a keyboard. Besides have other PC's

New to linux please help
