New install of Red Hat - display problem

I am new to linux, and have just installed Red Hat Linux 9
I have got this working OK on a dual boot system with Win XP
However in the graphical interface, it is displayed at 800 x 600
In win xp I use 1024 x 768.

When I change to 1024 x 768, and log out then back in for the changes to take affect - it has changed it back to 800 x 600

THe only thing I can think is that the monitor is not supported, because it is not automaticaly detected also my graphics card is found to be 16mb when it is 64 mb.

I am using a samsung v25 laptop with a 15" digital flat panel screen (in the laptop).

Please I really need to use 1024 x 768 - does anyone have any advice

I havent used RedHat for quite a long time but I remember there was some tool 'redhat-config-xfree86'. Unfortunately dont remember if it only detect your graphics adapter or also allows u to set resolution u want to work in.

Try running xf86cfg or xvidtune.
