New install of KDE questions
 

Hello all.
I just recently installed KDE on my system. THis may sound stupid, but I can't seem to figure out how to install new programs that I have downloaded. does anyone have any advice?

Whats your distro how did you install linux kde must be on your distro's cd's? What desktop are you using now? If you got kde as source Your not gonna have fun compiling it as it takes anywhere from 5 to 18 hours to compile. In the pre ghz pc day's it take a week lol. Most distro's have binary packages of kde we just need to know what distro your using.

I am using Kubuntu installed on a P4 2.4 Ghz with 1024mb DDR 2700 on a 60 GB secondary hard drive. Windoze XP Pro on 120 GB Primary.I have Kubuntu fully installed on the 60 GB hd. it works great and i am able to use internet and other items with no problems.I just cannot figure out how to install programs such as Flight gear in it.

To get better help you should put 'Kubuntu' and the version number in your profile - KDE isn't a distribution. To install Flight Gear, you should use your package manager - go to K Menu -> System -> Adept Manager, search for 'flightgear', and click 'request install.' Click 'Apply changes' to install it. This is how you'll install most software - it's the most convenient and the recommended way. Of course, sometimes you'll want software that's not available in the repositories. P.S. Since Flight Gear is a 3d flight simulator, you'll need a proper graphics driver. This wiki page explains how to get one:
