new install 14.04, terminal not recognizing password
 

when I try to use my password nothing shows up and it keeps telling me I have entered the wrong password.

You have not provided enough information.
Are you trying to connect root account of ubuntu 14.04 using ssh?

When you type your password in a terminal, that is expected behavior - nothing shows on screen. As to why your password fails, that's another question. You could try changing the password, lots of tutorials for that with Ubuntu.
