New Guy / Race exploit Q

hi guys, new to the forum, pretty new to Linux also.

Im trying to complete the last part of my CPT exam, in order do this im pretty sure I need to apply this exploit

http://www.securitytracker.com/id/1012810

The OS is RedHat kernel version 2.4.20-8

I have basic user access and Im pretty sure this is the right exploit to escalate my privileges to read the /etc/shadow file which I need to do crack the root password.

The trouble is, I dont seem to know what to do with this code.
I tried running it as a straight script and I get a bunch of 'command not found' errors all the way through it.
Tried compiling it with gcc and get all the same errors.

Kinda stuck as what to do to apply this. Can you help?
Thanks

If you check the LQ Rules you would see that this unfortunately is not a valid topic for LQ.

Hi Dave and welcome to LQ!

Unfortunately, the LQ rules http://www.linuxquestions.org/linux/rules.html forbid posting exam assignments and also posts about cracking.

Maybe that is the reason you are not getting any advice with your question.

well ok then, although it really is for legitimite reasons.

Why am I having issues with this .c script though?
Am I supposed to use gcc to compile it first? Or should "this script that I have that shall remain nameless" just run on its own like a .sh script
