new account, .cshrc not working

I just got a new account. I copied over my old .cshrc file, and sourced it. But, I am getting an error (unexpected end of file). After looking at the env variables, I think that I am on a bash shell. Do I need a .bashrc file when I have a bash shell and a .cshrc file when I have a C shell? Can I just rename my .cshrc file, or does it need to be written differently?
