Never seen before security options??

I have been playing with linux for just over a month. I have installed fedora 7 and 8 on a few different machines. I just did a fresh install of fedora 8 and created a regular user as requested per the installation. For some reason when I log in as that user it wont let me do anything. I keep getting insufficient rights dialog boxes. For instance I tried to change the display settings and instead of getting prompt for the root password it just says insufficient rights.

I have to log out and log back in as root to do anything. None of my other installs acted like this and I dont remember doing anything different. Can someone help me here?

you probally have to add your user to some groups, like sound, video, ect.
