Networking Linux and Windoze

Greetings, I so desperately want to move away from Windoze, is it possible for my workstation to be Linux based (ubuntu) and still be able to get an OO (Open Office) file from the data server and then to save back to this windoze data server, allowing another windoze OS machine to open and edit this document ?.

Your help is appreciated

Assuming the file server is just a basic Windows server with file sharing (which it almost certainly is, save for a possible domain situation), then there will be no problem.

Cool, I am quite conversant with windoze networking, but have never even tried Linux. I obviously have an ip address, default gateway, dns server etc for my DSL, is this too not a problem ? I have been using Mozilla Browsers before ie was even heard of and OO for over 4 years as standard in this office.

I have photographs on my machine, can this be shared with other Windoze workstations ? sorry for the questions, but I anticipate a big learning curve here and I frankly need to be very sure this will work before I dive in.

Thanks your very prompt reply.
