Networking Linux and Windows

Is it possible to network a Linux box and Windows machine by way of a simple Cat 5E crossover cable?

Thanks,

Yes, as long as you only have two computers. The network setup is the same.

OK- dumb question: can you point me to the directions? A guy at a "superstore" explained it to me, but my brain is like swiss cheese. I need a hard copy!

Setup a static IP address for each PC. I'm not familar with the Redhat GUI configurators. You can use the netconfig command.
192.168.0.1 netmask 255.255.255.0

The exact steps for windows depends on the version:
192.168.0.2 netmask 255.255.255.0

The software depends on what you really want to do with the network.

To share files and printers you will need to install / configure samba (If not already accomplished) on the linux PC. If you just want to transfer files you can use ftp. You will need a ftp server running on the linux PC.

Internet sharing will depend on which PC is connected to the modem.
