network talk command

Is there a command, like wall, write, talk, wall, that will send messages to a linux box that is on the internet or the same network?

rwall is a variant of wall that will send messages to a remote host. The standard
talk command will also send messages to users on remote hosts. Instead of a
command of the form:

talk username

you can issue the a command of the form:

talk username@hostname

But, what if the remote linux machine is not a part of a concrete network, for example, the linux boxes are plugged into a switch that is connected to a server that is hosting a Windows 2000 domain. The linux boxes are plugged into this network, but they are not a part of the network in the sense that if I use

talk user@host

The linux boxes will not know where that host is.

Is it possible to use

talk user@IP

instead of

talk user@host
