Network set up

I have recently installed Fedora Core 6. I did the text install and changed to the GUI by editing inittab.

I am trying to setup network and to do that I need to use NDISWrapper, but any time I try to use the Add/Remove Software, a popup with error message opens up "Unable to retrive software information"

Can anyone throw some light and help me.

do you have a wired connection running? ndiswrapper (i believe) is mainly just for wireless.
Make sure that the wired network is brought up before attempting to add/remove software, because it may be trying to access the internet to download information.

You're saying you have no wired ethernet (it doesn't work), and you have no wireless connectivity? That stinks. Well, when I first started running linux, I had much the same problem. I had to download the application packages myself from the internet on windows, copy them over to the ubuntu partition and install them by hand. I can help you do that, if you'd like. What version of ubuntu are you running? ie, Dapper Drake... and what kernel version?
You should already know what version, but for the kernel version just post the output of
sudo uname -a
