Unhappy network service is not working.

When I started DHCP service, the machine got hung up. I thought this happened because of DHCP. Later, I learned that if I change the IP address or for that matter any network related service, machine stops working means hangs up.

I used "ifconfig eth0:1 192.168.1.7" command to change my ip address. I even tried the GUI mode(using neat command) to change my id address.

when I set ip value, then it gives an error message like
"SIOCSIFFLAGS : cannot assign requested address". I tried search in the google, but no success.

Which distro is this on? Know that you either run DHCP (dynamic addressing) or you set the IP address yourself (static addressing). You can't mix the two.

Hi,

I'm using RHEL 5. I mean to say whenever I change the network related settings(e.g. changing the IP address), I get the above mentioned error.
