Network scanner

I have three slackware machines in my network and a a printer cum scanner (HP_LaserJet_M1536). The HP device is connected in the network and not connected physically to any computer. I can use the scanner using one computer, which has slackware 14. Others are slackware 13.37, and can't use xsane to access the scanner.

Xsane says "no devices available". However, I am able to send prints from all the machines.

Where can see the error logs? Help me

Check to make sure you are a user of the scanner and lp groups with:

Check to make sure the 13.37 machines can see the scanner port (execute from one of those clients):

nmap -p 6566 ip-address-of-printer
Check the client-configuration section under:

ie. make sure /etc/sane.d/net.conf has the printer ip address in it and that /etc/sane.d/dll.conf has "net" in it,
and try "scanimage -L" to check on the device.

Check errors in /var/syslog that have the word "sane" in them

Hopefully that gets things started...
