network problem with mepis

simple problem here: i installed mepis 3.10.2003 tonight, and it's wonderful... except for the fact that i can't get an ip address. it's not a network problem, since when i boot from windows i can surf just fine... any thoughts on what might be configured wrong? i checked the eth0 settings and everything seems fine except for the fact that when i click on "start eth0," i don't get an ip.

help?
