Network Problem when running ubuntu in Virtual box

Hello,

i decided to try Ubuntu in a virtual box. my main computer is running windows7.

I set the install going and fell asleep the next day none of the computers on the network could connect to the wi-fi to get on the internet. I also can not get on the internet using Ubuntu

I have tried all the setting I can find in Virtual box and Ubuntu and Windows. I have deleted everything I can and tried many different System Restore Points. I have even swapped routes.

My aim is at the moment just to get the other computers connected to the network back as others who use the network need the internet.

Please help and if you could post any many ideas as possible as I can only check this website at college.

I hope this is the right place to get help for this!

It seems crazy to me that this install has caused problems for the whole network but i cant think what else it could be??

thanks!

PS i am currently connected to a wireless network with no problem at a friends house :S

Are all of your computers connected using wireless?
I have a problem where there are too many people in my neighboorhood with ATT Uverse and all of the channels get blocked and become unusable after walking more than a couple of feet away from the wireless gateway.

We need to know more about your network topography before we can help you?
Is this an University network? How are you connected to the network? How the other users of that network?

The network is at my home and has my laptop and 2 other laptops (all windows) all connected wirelessly to my belkin router. I can not even connect to the router and have tried resetting the router but still nothing.

I would normally suspect some fault with the router but it seems more than coincidence that this happened right after i set up Ubuntu.

Sorry if this is more of a windows / virtual box problem. if you could even point me in the right direction that would be great as i am completely stuck as to what is causing my inability to get any of the laptops back on the internet?

Could Ubuntu have changed the settings on the router somehow?

thanks!

I have been doing some more research and it might be something to do with the router only being set up for windows? When I installed Ubunto it might have changed some of the settings on the router, or my computer network settings, and now the router will not reconect because these changes have been made?

I really need to revers the changes made my Ubuntu or set it so it works with the router?

I might be clutching at straws here but its all I can think of. When I get home I will try and re-install it and go thought the set up more carefully. Just deleting it and going to a system restore point has not worked.

I also have a old BT router which I have managed to connect to but not managed to connect to the internet with :S

Sorry if this is all very confusing and I am probably providing all the wrong info but any help would be great.

Ubuntu shouldn't have changed anything on the router. i would try to connect using a wired connection to the router, so that you can see that the router is working correctly and check the settings.

OK I have now managed to get back on the web, it seems leaving the install going over night and the downloading of all the updates caused my phone line to give in (or it could just be a coincidence). We have bypassed the cable and it reconnected to the internet. Still cant log on to my main router, but this is not a Linux issue and now i have the internet i am sure i can sort it out.

Sorry to waste your time with non Linux stuff and thanks for the advice! :)
