Network card not working in RHEL4

I am haveing ASUS M2A-VM series motherboard with on board network card,but after Installing RHEL 4 my lan card is not working,The driver found in Mother board cd is r1000_v1.05.tgz and i tried to install the driver as specified in readme file,but it is giveing me errors.The network card is rtl8168,My kernal version is 2.6.*

when giving command 'make clean modules'& 'make install'as in read me file it is giveing error.

Pls help

Would you be able to maybe post the error message that appears. This way we kinda know more about what your system tells you when you give those commands.

Probably needs to install the kernel-devel rpm off the cd but just a guess without seeing the errors in question. More detail as to the system specs helps as well. 2.6.* means anything.
