Network and soundcard problems

I have two seperate problems.

One is that I just installed fedora core 5 and it won't detect my pci soundcard. (I have sound blaster X-fi). And being the linux newb that I am I have no idea how the get fedora to recognize it.

Two, I have a wireless LAN using both linksys router and linksys wireless NIC (WMP54GS). I've been snooping through the system and all it seems to be able to see is my onboard NIC. How do I install the nic, and once that's done, how would I proceed to configuring a wireless network so I can browse the internet from linux. I want to move as many apps as I can to the linux platform and the first on my list is the internet.

Thanks alot for the help everyone, especially with those who contributed to solving my boot problem yesterday.

bigdan43,

I recommend you recompile the Linux kernel from source if possible. I had problems like that and a recompile made it all work. Give that try a maybe? Make sure you configure it with the appropriate support you are looking for. If you need help with the recompile, ask and I'll tell you.

For the sound card you could try running alsaconf as root.

For the wifi card, you'll probably need to use ndiswrapper and the windows driver.
