NetWare/Windows moving to Linux/Windows+

I started working with NetWare servers/Windoze desktops in 1993. I am going to to move our data & email from six NetWare 6.5 SP7 servers to Suse Linux Enterprise Server with NetWare OES. After working with SLES 10 SP1 and OES for a month now, non-production, I'm realizing the truth of what another poster wrote: "It's like biting into an avacado and expecting the sweetness of a pear". i feel a bit lost. Taking an on-demand class through Novell, that is helping. So thnaks for inviting me to post and I look forward to frequenting this site. Seems like what I need. i'm excited about learning Linux and exp-loring the posblties of linux desktops. I'm pretty much all about SUSE linux right now though.

So, for a question: I decommissioned a Delll PE 800 with scsi RAID running NetWare, addeda 500GB SATA drive; installed SLES/OES on the SATA and started working with it. Managed to install a few apps, GroupWise, Acrobat, worked with Yast, command line stuff, then took drive and popped into a newly purchased Dell T300, thinking it would boot the OS, but errror, no Operating System installed. Can linux move to different hardware and still work, by reconfiguring itself. Somehow thought it could do so. Thanks,
Pat Auburn, CA

When you had the 500GB drive in the first computer, was it the only drive in the computer? Do you have the Grub bootloader installed to the master boot record of the drive? Is the 500GB drive you put in the new computer the only drive? Do you have the drive set to first boot priority in BIOS?

the first computer has an additional 200GB RAID with DOS installed, to boot netware, and rest of disk a NetWare partition.

on the 500GB SATA drive, yes I think so.

>Is the 500GB drive you put in the new computer the only drive?
The new computer has 1TB SATA RAID with 200GB NetWare partition.

>Do you have the drive set to first boot priority in BIOS?
yes

How did you boot the drive when you had it in the old machine with DOS and Netware? You need to KNOW if you installed Grub to the mbr of that drive and I guess how you booted when it was in the old machine would help toward that? Does your BIOS correctly recognize both drives.
