netopia 3D reach pcmcia on Fedora Core 3
 

i've googled for my pcmcia card, but i only get 4 responses when i search by model number and they're in french. i don't speak french. i'm trying to figure out what chipset i have in my wireless card. i'm wanting to put this card in a IBM thinkpad T22 running fedora core 3. i'm also a total linux greenhorn. one listing i did by searching the model listed on the win driver cd gave a listing that may have shown the card to be prism2. all i know is fedora didn't find it on its own. ideas what this chipset should be? thanks.

...and while i'm asking, this should be possible, right? wireless lan on linux? i've seen a lot of posts that were rather discouraging. thanks for any help.

Some possibilities:

--- Look for ndiswrapper. It allows you to use your windows drivers for the wireless card on linux.
--- Plug the card on linux and rut "dmesg". See what it says about your device. It may give you info. about the chipset.
--- I can speak some French. List the links and I may be able to help you further. ;)

ok, i went to craig's acx100 guide, and by lspci -n, the output confirmed per this guide that my card is using the acx100 chipset. after following the guide, i got to the point that i tried to run ./start_net. now, i've messed this up a couple times and went back and removed the drivers per the guide and started from scratch. i hope this hasn't messed anything up. here's the output from ./start_net:

i'm trying to run a netopia 3D reach pcmcia wireless card on a thinkpad T22. the guide gave some options for troubleshooting, but i didn't see this output listed in the guide. anyone have any ideas? thanks

also, ref dmesg for enemorales, there is a very large output from this command. in it was a reference to the driver i installed from craig's guide. i'm unable to copy/paste the output on this post, but later this evening, i can post it if it would help anyone help me figure out what's going on. btw, i'm a newbie but i guess you guys already knew that :)

i think i should mention that the mac address from this query does match the mac address from my wireless card. this is frustrating. thanks again for any help.

Ok. Some information is needed:

-- What have you done exactly?
-- Did you succeed to compile the drivers (make, make install + copy files)?
-- What distribution are you using? There's a guide with specific remarks for different distros: http://acx100.sourceforge.net/mediaw...p/Installation
-- If you can see the MAC address it may mean that you have the device working, but you have to configure it. The program to do so is iwconfig (and not ifconfig). Try to run this command and check what if says about wlan0.

well, i guess i'm not going to need anymore help on my wifi card for now. btw, i was trying to use a netopia 3D reach card on a thinkpad T22 laptop. while trying to set this up under fedora core 3, something happened. i bought this laptop used about a week ago. for several days, the computer has ran well. only today, when i very nearly got the card working, and while the the laptop was plugged in, the computer seemed to get very warm and the wireless card got hot. the computer started to audibly 'tick'. the machine then froze and i had to power off. i swapped hard drives back to a drive that had xp on it. everything still gets a little warm, but everything is working. i'd love to get some flavor of linux working on my T22, but i'm getting discouraged. ideas are appreciated, but also i must apologize for all the seemingly wasted time and effort here.
