Question Netlink is not configured in the kernel

Hello all!

I'm trying to make a simple router with debian. But when i run a command like IP or TC i got the following message: Connection refused Cannot send dump request.

In other forums i found that this probably is caused by the fact that Netlink is not configured in the kernel.

I'm rather new to linux, so how would i recompile my existing kernel? Where can i find save information to do so? Is it possible to edit the .config file and then recompile?

Many thanks in advance,
