Question netconfig

Hi folks,
i do have a problem again.

i have run netconfig in the setup program. It says then that everything is running and the netsetup is succesfully completed. I do select the option that i have running another dhcp server. If i do reboot when the whole setup is done it normally starts up till the startup line broadcasting DHCP_DISCOVER appears. Till here linux starts normal but from here it seems to like the computer hangs. the system does not startup further. Even after 10 minutes waiting. can someone please help me

Do the existing computers use dhcp?
Is the physical connection to the rotuer ok - ie do you get link lights at each end of the cable?
