NET8 client-server connection through firewall

At home I have a Linux-server with Oracle 9i server installed.

I want to connect to this Oracle server from a client PC (Win 2000) through SQLNET.

When my client connects to the internet through a phone-line (modem) everythings works fine.

The problem:

When my client (laptop) is hooked up to the network at work, the connection fails. I guess the firewall at work is preventing the client-server communicaton.

What does work:
- ping
- SSH using putty.

What does not work
- tnsping --> I get a timeout message. ORA 15535

More info:
- db-server setup is dedicated not MTS, so I guess there is no port-redirection.

Read a lot about port-forwarding, not sure if this is the key ! and if it is, how to make this work.
