net radio with noatun or xmms?
I would like to be able to listen to internet radio at work. The stream I usually listen to broadcasts in realplayer (ram), winamp (pls), and WinMedia Player (asx) formats. The only programs I have available are XMMS and noatun. I'm not privy to DL and install programs.
Anybody have any suggestions?

XMMS can handle .pls-files without problem. You could try to setup XMMS to be the default program for opening pls-files, but you can also save the .pls-file fore the radio station you would like to listen to on your computer and open it with xmms as you would open any playlist (these can also be kept on your computer for later use if you often listen to the same radio station)

Good luck!

I've tried that over and over again, and xmms doesn't seem to want to do anything. I don't even get error messages.

Is XMMS otherwise working?

Can you play normal local ogg/mp3-files? Can you open a .pls-playlist that you have created (with a few songs) and play that one? I checked my XMMS-preferences, and I do not have any radio related plugins, just cdaudio. ogg and mp3, so I do not know why it should not work for you as well.

hmmm.... i did a locate ogg and found one .ogg file on my filesystem
it played just fine
then i did a locate mp3 and found 4 .mp3 files. All of them were for the game kbattleship. When i clicked on them from the open-file dialog box, the box closed and nothing else happened. The player didn't even change the display; it still had the .ogg file name on it.
I thought i would try creating a playlist to see what happened there. The only thing that I could even get it to add to the play list was the .ogg file. I tried added some of the mp3s but it would just close the dialog box and have added nothing to the play list.
Thanks for your help, this sure does seem weird

oh, i forgot to add something else i did.
after seeing that i could not get the mp3s into xmms, i tried playing kbattleship (since all of the mp3s were for the game anyway). There was no sound at all during the game even with the sound option enabled for the game.

Well, if it's the RH your using at work then you would have to install .mp3 support. It really seems like that is the issue. Since you cannot install you'll have to convert to or play another format...

hmm... i wonder if i could DL it and compile it from source... there is a link for that on xmms help
anybody have an idea on how long this could take?
