Some useful information would be, well, useful.
For a start, how did you delete them?

Hello and welcome to LinuxQuestions,

Have a look at TestDisk and PhotoRec. They're the tools that you need. Most likely they're available from your repository so check with your software package manager. What version of Ubuntu are you using? It's always good practice to provide as much information as possible, the version of your distro being always required to get you started as soon as possible.

Looking forward to your participation in the forums. Have fun with Linux.

Kind regards,

Eric

As mentioned above Testdisk is an excellent app, but configure it so you'll only recover image files. Otherwise you'll be recovering a bunch of useless txt files (thousands).

Testdisk is very simple to use as it'll walk you through each step on the terminal. Here is a video on the app: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EJdx2ORi3r4

I've used photorec successfully. One warning: whatever you use, don't save anything to /home till you've done it — the chances of overwriting the deleted files are small, but you can't be too careful.
