Need to create an RH8 install boot disk from Windows 98
Greetings!
I am the newest of newbies and am having one hilacious time trying to get RH8 installed on my x86 system. I have partitioned my drive with the second partition in Ext2 file system format with 10 GB of space. I was instructed to download rawrite.exe from dosutils on a Red Hat FTP server. Once accomplished, it can't do the job of getting the \images\boot.img file referenced to make the install boot disk. Any ideas on how I can get this installed on my PC? |
Just how do you intend to install linux on your system?
Normally, Red hat comes with 3 CD images which you use. After putting in the first CD, installation is easy. |

That's what I would have thought, too. Hmm...
Well, I have two CDs for Red Hat Linux 8.0 Publisher's Edition. So, regardless of the fact that I only have Windows 98 (SE), when I put in disk 1, it should initialize Red Hat? Do I need to set up BIOS to read only from CD-ROM? |
As long as cd is set to boot before the hard drive in the bios, the cd should boot, and start the installation process.
