Need some basic tutorial for Knoppix.

I just installed Knoppix 5.1 but i really dont know that much about it. apart from that i will like to get a link where i could download some programs which work on Linux because almost all my windows based applications and games wont work on the knoppix.

First, welcome to LQ, and to Linux.

Your question, though, is difficult to answer...it's like asking "how high is up?". A link for some programs that work on Linux? More like hundreds of thousands of links. A better question to ask would be "What is a program for Linux that does <whatever you'd like to do>?"

Your Windows software won't work on Linux, but chances are excellent there are other programs that do exactly what their Windows counterparts do, as well or better. Some examples:

Microsoft Office = OpenOffice, Kwrite, Gnumeric
Photoshop = GIMP
Internet Explorer = Firefox, Konqueror, Opera
Outlook = Thunderbird, Kmail, Evolution

There are lots of others...what are you looking for???

There is WINE and Cedega sometimes has betas.
as for software for linux - there are a few linux games sites but I don't know if there is something like download.com just for linux but you can use:
http://www.debian.org/distrib/packages
scroll down - remember that if you download from that site it will only work in debian computers but it has a nice search and it can give you a software name which you can search for in a search engine.

(there are a few ways to get packages to work on other distributions but why take the long route? also I heard some packages work with other distributions that use the same package format but I didn't look into it.

Debian
