I hope someone will bother to help me... I read thru threads and still can't figure it out.. I have to install a driver for aureal au33 card. I managed to get the .tar and another file from mozillaquest, but now what do i do with it? I tried to click on it in gnome, but i guess that was a windows-type thing to do?

first you need to untar it. From a terminal you should be able to move to the directory that the .tar file is in and type, tar -xvzf filename where filename is the file to un-tar. then switch to the directory it creates and read the installs or readme files for specific information on the installation.
