Need new distro b4 I break my laptop in half!

I need some advice on a new distro.

I am currently using Arch Linux on a older P3 laptop.
The laptop is a HP Pavilion n3390.
The only thing not stock on the computer is the hd. I had to scrape up a laptop hd and all I had was a 6gig from a broken touchscreen computer. Old 10gig hd was damaged beyond my repair. fdisk..etc. no luck.

I have tried many distros on this computer and the only one I could get to install at all was Arch.

The problem is I am a newb, and have no business using Arch. But, it is all I got.
I have:
Installed Arch.
Setup xf86config.
got blackbox and xfce running.

I can't use pacman, because I do not have internet access to the laptop yet.(which means I can't update libs/packages.)

Forgot: Knoppix - works perfectly..(haven't checked wireless)

I' can't get the dailup modem working.
I am having a hard time understanding how to get a Linksys WPC11 working.
I am also having a hard time with sound configuration.

I want to stick with it, but I am losing it with Arch and myself.

Can anybody suggest a distro that might be better suited to my laptop?

I am in the process of getting funds for a new HD.

Any input on my problems or distro is greatly appreciated.

Try Slack, it'll work on most any hardware and is a snap (and quick) to install.
Good package management and a great community

I tried slack 10. Woldn't install.
I have it on an old p2 desktop running fluxbox, and I love it.

Try Slack,
That's my opinion, too! But, there's no guarantee that you wont want to smash your laptop!:)

Why wouldn't it install? Was it a bad cd or what?

I got through most of the install, and near the end it posted a weird error message.

I tried again same message.
I was in a rush so I didn't goggle error or check slacks site.(kicking self now.)

I can always go back, and try again.

yes, what's wrong with woldn't? :D

I am a dum ass.
I was trying to install to the wrong partition.
opps.
I was reading it backwards for some reason, because I did it more than once.

Slackware 10 is up and running.
:D
