Unhappy Need Keyboard, Help!

I have Dual installed Red Hat Linux 9 to a WIN ME gateway. The install seemed to go well along with the partitioning and I can now dual boot BUT... the keyboard either fails to respond or at seemingly random intervals works but the "hangs" about half the time and repeats endlessly.

Keyboard came from gateway and is USB ( Mouse is USB also). I have rebooted, reconfigured and reinstalled, no luck. It took me an hour to log in to Linux using trial and error and the mouse to "cut" away the excess characters when the keyboard worked.

I have tried the keyboard setup options to no avail. I have change mouses and USB port for both keyboard and mouse. The keyboard works fine in Windows and dos.

Need Help

PS be gentle this is my first tym

looks like you are selecting a wrong keyboard duringn installation. i did the same mistake when i was starting out with my mouse. selected a wheel mouse because it was a wheel mouse and the wheel was working in windows. but linux did some crazy stuff after the installation with my mouse. it used to jump around. so i had to configure it as a generic two button mouse and then it worked fine (of course the wheel didnt work)

so watch out if you are selecting a usb keyboard or not

FYI I had the same problem, even though my brand of mouse was an option, it just made it stick to the top right of the screen.
Pick generic devices for now

Thanx but my mouse works great, the keyboard is the problem. Little help plz. Even called RedHat, all they could do was say try changing the keyboard.

Wat about editing the xf86config?

Have you checked the keyboard back in Win ME? So you know it isnt on the blink?
Count the number of keys on the thing and try all relevent keyboard driver/layout options til one works
