Need "kernal-source"....

ugg.. ok so i downloaded the IA36 nvidia driver and got it going and then it says it needs the "kernal-Source" to compile an install or something along those lines.. why cant it be a simple .rpm i can double click like the other things i have downloaded.. so if any one can tell me where to download the kernal-source it would be great! thanks..

Welcome to LQ :)

Actually it is a simple RPM you can click on ;) It's on your install CD's:
linux-source-version.rpm
OR
kernel-source-version.rpm

To find out which one to install, you'll need to know which version you are running, so, type:
uname -r
And it should tell you.

HTH

Cool

i ment why couldent the driver be a simple .rpm , but thanks :) I'll try doing that when i can start linux without getting mad at it again -_- every now and then my screen will get some funky vertical lines and when i move windows it gets all distorted and junk -_- thanks!

hmm

when i did uname -r i get: 2.4.20-20.9

and the only kern-source i could find was for "kernel-source-2.4.20-8.i386.rpm" Should i use this one..?
