Need install help
I am a total Linux Noob. I downloaded a copy of College Linux and tried to follow a tutorial for installing it without the CD. Here is the tutorial -collegelinux.org/docs.php?jedi=view&id=1073204176- The problem is the turorial assumes that you already know, and have done certain things that I do not know how to do. Here is one example from the tutorial....
Quote:
Mount the CollegeLinux iso. For example, from the directory of the CL iso do mount -t iso9660 cl_v25~1.iso /mnt/cdrom -o loop
|
and again here
Quote:
It is also assumed that you made a directory (for example /mnt/cdrom) for mounting the iso
|
. Ok, when was I supposed to make this directory, and how do I make it? Where do I enter these commands? From DOS? I tried dos with no results. Can anyone help me, as I would really like to get this installed? Thank you for any help.

Jumping to conclusions here, but I'd assume they're
suggesting that you create (have created) it in /linux
...
Cheers,

Well that is what I thought, but I just don't get how I creat it in /linux when linux is not installed yet. Is it created in a file in the /linux folder before I install? If so, how? I'm sorry for being totally clueless.

from the college-linux readme you posted
1.1 Download install.zip.README and install.zip from the /slackware/slackware-current/rootdisks directory. Read the README immediately to see if install.zip will work for you.

You did read that README?
Cheers,
Tink

Thanks for the help. I will read through the README more carefully. And I cant install from disc because I have no way to burn a disc at this time. And I can't afford to buy a boxed version at this time. Thanks for the info.

maybe you should check out something with a net install ( I think suse has a ftp install option?). Most of these you create the floppy's and boot from them. Once you do that, it will download and install the system from the net.
