need help with sound on zorin os 9 install on dell laptop
i have zorin os 9 install on dell latitude e5400, i am unable to get sound to work, have done this:
sudo apt-get install libsox-fmt-all faac flac paman
rm -rf ~/.config/pulse
sudo vi /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
And add the following line at the end of the file:
options snd-hda-intel model=generic
sound still not working.
I have also installed ubuntu on the same laptop and sound is working, so i know hardware is good.
Distribution: Currently: OpenMandriva. Previously: openSUSE, PCLinuxOS, CentOS, among others over the years.

please help.
Did you check if the sound is muted?
If not, type the following into a terminal window;
Code:
alsamixer
Don't run the above command as root, just run it under your normal user account. If it's muted, you'll see "MM", press F1 for help using alsamixer.
Try booting to a Live CD of something else and testing the sound. If it doesn't work with the Live CD, it might be a hardware problem. I don't think that's likely, but it's worth ruling it out definitively and it's an easy test to do.
