need help with server
 

i have a dell poweredge 2550 i want to run linux on what linux do i want to download to put on this server and keep in mind i am a noob lol but i am sick of paying windows for something i have already bought i have 3 copys of windows in this house and i would have to buy another one for the server and they say it would be more to buy a windows server software so i am ready to get away from there crap if i can learn linux thanks guys for the help

I would suggest you try CentOS or Ubuntu-Server since you're new to linux.

The distros used most often for servers (in no particular order) are: CentOS, Ubuntu Server, Debian, and Slackware. All excel as a server OS, but have their own particulars, mainly in the areas of package management, location of configuration files, and availability of GUI tools.

Ubuntu is probably the most user-friendly for new users and also has more GUI packages available.

If you're going to use linux for a server it would be well worth your time to learn some command line, as this is where linux really shines. A few links to start:

EDIT: My personal favorite is Debian. They have a lot of good tutorials related to server setups.
