I'm currently running the pclinuxos 2007 as my OS.Which that loaded and installed on my system without effort. But, since then, about a month now, I've been wanting to try other linux version. Especially, the ubuntu ultimate edition. But also try Mint 4.0 kde and nothing I've tried has worked on my system as effortlessly as this version of pclinux. Therefore, I'm seeking advice on which mirrors should I DL for my Dell Dimension 2400. my problems for example, both with Mint, unbuntu, and Fedora. They all seem to start up fine, loading up the page that ask me, how I want to start cd. But then from there. Sometimes, after extremely long wait. I sometimes get to a screen that give me choice to install. But it won't install. So I'm guessing, really not sure, that I'm probably DL' ing the wrong type of Mirror. So could anyone please offer me some advice and Links if possible. I thank you all and appreciate any help you all can give,
How about some system specs. As for the mirror sites pick one close to your location.
Some distro's need at least 256mb of ram to install from a GUI installer this may be your problem but can't say for sure as we have nothing to go by.
Also at the spot that it hangs press CTRL + ALT + F1 that should put you to a tty terminal so you can see what's going on. Post any errors it may show.
oh yeah, lol, I've got 256MB of Ram with 160GB hard drive. this system is pretty much stock from shelf. except, I put in a newer, more space Hard Drive and a better Efferent card. Otherwise, it's how it came as I purchased it.. Upon trying to run my, Ubuntu ultimate edition. When I got to hang up spot. That CTRL + Alt+ f1 didn't make difference at all.
Ok ctrl+alt+f1 Is how you can view disk startup in verbose mode in Debian, I tried ctrl+alt+f6 with Ubuntu 7.10 and got a verbose screen.
Another thing you can try, at the boot splash screen press one of your arrow keys to stop the boot process. Then press F5 a small long gated window will come up, type live acpi=off and see if that will get it to start.
Are you sure you have a good burn on the .iso image? I tend to have problems with cd's that have been burned to fast. I will usually burn a .iso image at 4 to 6 speed, they tend to work better that way.
Also have you been having problems with your cd-rom at all? I have a dell precision work station, I could never get it to boot to the cd like it should. It would boot until the setup had to find the cd-rom it would give a error "device not found" ended up changing the cd-rom and everything worked fine.
