Need help with content filtering/website blocking


hi i am a newbee to linux.

i have done internet sharing between centos machine acting as router and a computer on lan using iptables ,now i want to use shorewall as my firewall to block few social networking sites,but whenever i start the shorewall service ,the internet sharing gets disabled.

can anybody help me out of this?

Firewalls usually block ports, not content, so a firewall is the wrong tool for your purpose. You need to install a filtering proxy for what you want to achieve, for example Squid: http://www.howtoforge.com/web-filtering-on-squid-proxy

i tried with squid transparent proxy ,but it isn't working properly

Are there any error messages?
Content that should be filtered but isn't?
Does squid start?
